Looking for a fully funded summer research jump-start in a top lab? The Tsinghua Amgen Scholars Program places ~10 undergraduate researchers at Tsinghua University (Beijing) for an intensive 8-week lab experience, with a stipend, travel, on-campus housing, tuition and meal support, and hands-on mentoring. It’s perfect for ambitious undergraduates in biomedical or related fields who want real lab work, expert mentorship, and international research exposure — especially students based at universities in Asia. Apply early — the 2026 cycle opens Nov 1, 2025 and closes Mar 15, 2026.

Tsinghua University is one of China’s leading research universities with strong programs in life sciences and biomedical research. The Amgen Scholars Programme is an international initiative that partners with prestigious universities worldwide to give undergraduates hands-on experience in cutting-edge bioscience research. At Tsinghua, scholars join faculty labs, receive mentorship from faculty and lab members, and participate in academic activities and lectures — all designed to accelerate research skills and build networks in academia and industry.

An 8-week, on-campus summer research placement at Tsinghua University where each scholar is hosted in a faculty laboratory to work on a defined research project under direct mentorship (faculty + postdoc/grad student). The program combines lab research, academic lectures and professional development activities, and culminates in a final report or presentation. The 2026 program is provisional for June 4 – August 6, 2026 and plans to host ~10 scholars. Accepted applicants will be notified between March–April.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Primary target: Undergraduate students (must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree). Many Amgen Scholars Asian host sites specify students studying at institutions in Asia are eligible for the Tsinghua slot; Tsinghua’s announcements have stated selection of candidates studying in Asia.
  • Academic standing: Completed at least the first year of undergraduate studies by program start; not graduating before the program begins; usually must resume undergraduate studies after the program (common Amgen Scholars rule).
  • Language: Good working knowledge of English is often required for Amgen Scholars Asia sites; some partner posts list acceptable English test scores (check host’s application details).

Application Process

  1. When to apply: Application window reported for 2026 — Nov 1, 2025 – Mar 15, 2026. Application deadline Mar 15, 2026. Accepted applicants notified March–April.
  2. Where to apply: Apply via the Tsinghua Amgen Scholars program application portal (see the Tsinghua/Amgen Scholars host page). The program page and official Tsinghua announcement list the dates — if you can’t find the form on the program page, contact the program team via the site’s Contact page.
  3. Typical required documents (common to Amgen Scholars host sites — check Tsinghua’s application for exact list):
    • Curriculum Vitae / résumé.
    • Official or unofficial academic transcript(s).
    • Personal statement / research interest statement (short essay describing research interest and goals).
    • One or two letters of recommendation (many host sites require two).
    • (Sometimes) proof of English proficiency if required by host (TOEFL/IELTS scores) — verify on the host page.
  4. Selection & notification: Shortlisted applicants are typically notified in the months immediately after the deadline (Tsinghua notes notifications occur March–April). Prepare to confirm availability to be on campus full-time for the program dates.
