The Professional Fellows Program (PFP) offers a fully funded exchange in the U.S. that includes a 4–6 week on-site fellowship, immersive professional development, and the chance to implement a meaningful Reciprocal Project in your home country. American Councils for International Education is a nonprofit dedicated to advancing international education, academic exchange, and research. Since 1974, it has been instrumental in supporting global leadership development, language training, and professional exchanges. The organization runs over 100 programs across 80+ countries and partners with the U.S. Department of State to implement the Professional Fellows Program. Their mission is to build mutual understanding and empower individuals and institutions through cross-cultural learning and leadership.
The Professional Fellows Program offers emerging leaders from Europe and Eurasia a unique opportunity to participate in a 4–6 week fellowship in the United States, hosted by U.S. NGOs, government offices, and private institutions. Fellows work closely with U.S. peers, attend a civic leadership summit in Washington, D.C., and develop a Reciprocal Project to implement in their home country. Pre- and post-program virtual engagements ensure continuity, impact, and sustained collaboration.

Eligibility Criteria
- Mid-career professionals from eligible countries in Europe and Eurasia
- Proven leadership experience in civil society, nonprofit, government, or private sector
- Strong interest in civic engagement, innovation, or social change
- Proficiency in English (oral and written)
- Commitment to implement a Reciprocal Project in home country
- Must be eligible for a U.S. J-1 visa (no current U.S. residency or citizenship)

Application Process

- Updated CV/resume
- Statement of interest
- Project proposal (Reciprocal Project idea)
- Two letters of recommendation
- Participate in interviews (shortlisted applicants only)
- Final results and placement details shared by early 2026
- Program begins with virtual orientation, followed by U.S. placement
