Faruk’s story begins in a place where fear often echoed louder than dreams. Growing up amid conflict, he lost not only the carefree joy of childhood but also a sense of belonging. Facing rejection because of his own challenges, Faruk felt firsthand the sting of exclusion—an experience that would later shape his life’s mission.

Where the world saw limits, Faruk found possibility. Through football, he discovered a space where his abilities—not his disabilities—defined him. That ball at his feet was more than a game; it was hope, confidence, and the belief that everyone deserves a place to shine.

In 2019, I met Faruk, and since then I’ve watched his passion transform from a personal dream into a movement that is changing lives. Today, through Ability Sports Africa, Faruk proves that disability doesn’t limit ability—sports unite us all.

Building a Community Without Barriers

Ability Sports Africa is more than just a sports organization. It’s a mission-driven platform that empowers individuals of all abilities, building their self-esteem, resilience, and life skills through sports, creative arts, and physical literacy programs. The vision is clear: an inclusive community where children and youth with different abilities participate fully in games, sports, and arts—free from stigma and discrimination.

At the heart of this vision lies a groundbreaking concept called Reverse Inclusion. Instead of always casting children with disabilities as participants, Ability Sports Africa flips the script—empowering them to lead inclusive activities and inviting their non-disabled peers to join. This reversal not only builds confidence and self-worth but also fosters genuine social inclusion.
